Meet Pam Butler – Founder of The Westwood School

As a young high school teacher, Pam realized that troubled students were often missing essential life skills. She imagined a school that would prepare kids for real life. More than 4 decades later, Pam’s vision for cultivating young adults with character, caring hearts and an inspiration to succeed is alive and well at The Westwood School.

An educational trailblazer, Pam established Westwood’s Pre-K – 8th grade Montessori school in 1986. She led the high school expansion in 2008 making Westwood the first Montessori School in North America to embrace the International Baccalaureate (IB) in both middle and high schools. Pam is also a charter member of MACTE, a Montessori accrediting body. Pam has attended Level II International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) Administration and Level II International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) Administration training.

An expert in the field of education, Pam’s experience spans both traditional, Montessori and IB classrooms. She has a B.S. degree in Secondary Education as well as master’s level work in Montessori education, certifications in the Montessori Method at the Primary, Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary and Middle School levels. A nationally recognized Montessori speaker and author, Pam has also managed Montessori teacher training centers and lectured at local colleges.

Pam is currently a member of The Westwood School’s Board of Directors and has served on several school boards.
